Gloria Bernice Roybal age 85, a resident of Las Vegas, NM and formerly of Variadero NM was called home on December 19th 2022. She was born January 28, 1937 to Tobias Garcia and Carlota (Catherine) Sanchez Garcia in Tucumcari NM.
She was united in marriage to Lee Roybal in Tucumcari on October 10, 1955 in a double ceremony with cousins Leo and Alice Roybal as the other couple. The next day they moved to Downey California where they lived for 9 years. She worked in a factory making drapes for several years and was able to buy her very first car on her own, a big pink and white 1955 dodge.
They moved after that to her husbands family ranch in Variadero NM, where he built her a big house and adopted 2 babies. She made that house a home for all of them. She loved working outside in her yard where she grew the most beautiful flowers and vegatables. She also loved to cook and sew. When her son passed away in 2010, she took in and raised his 3 children and kept them active by putting them in sports, and other activies. She also made sure that they were baptised, made their first holy communion and were active in other activies in the church. She also loved babysitting her youngest granddaughter Marisa.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee, her son Joseph, her sister Joann (Jody) Lopez, and a step grandson Bernard Roybal.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Roybal-Jaramillo and husband David, her 4 grandchildren, Samantha, Sabrina, and Steven Roybal, and Marisa Jo-Lee Jaramillo. Brothers: Toby Garcia jr., Theodore (Carmen) Garcia, Sister Geneva (Rusky) Encinias, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Rosary services will be conducted on Thursday December 29, 2022 at 7pm and Funeral mass Friday December 30, 2022 9am both at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM with Father Rob Yaksich serving as celebrant.
Serving as casket bearers will be: Juanito Quintana III, Robert Garcia, James Garcia, Bill Lopez, Victor Pacheco, and Benny Marquez.
Burial will follow at the Roybal Family Cemetary in Trementina NM.
