Obituary

Guadalupe F. Tafoya, a dedicated veteran, devoted family man, and pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on January 3, 1940, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Jimmy and Adelina Tafoya, Guadalupe "Wiley" lived a life of honor, service, and unwavering commitment to his family and country.

A proud veteran, Guadalupe served 30 years in the Army National Guard and was a distinguished veteran of the Gulf War with the 720th Transportation unit. His dedication to service extended beyond military life, as he worked at the New Mexico State Hospital for 25 years, continuing to contribute even after his retirement.

Guadalupe was a loving father who helped raise two families. He was previously married to Loretta Almanzar and shared 40 beautiful years with his wife Julie D. Tafoya until her passing in 2017. His legacy lives on through his children: daughter Denise Tafoya, son Phillip Tafoya, and step-children Kenny Martinez and Brenda Sanchez. He was preceded in death by step-children Arthur Martinez and Paul Montoya, whom he deeply loved. He was a proud grandfather to Isaac and Esteban Zamora, Gabriella Frosco, and Ana Sofia Duran, along with many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his brothers Robert (and Loraine) Tafoya and Roger Tafoya, sisters Margaret (and Mike) Mares and Kathy (and Gerald) Silva, and sister-in-law Lenore Tafoya. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and siblings: Richard Tafoya, Ismael "Boss" Tafoya, Jim Tafoya Jr., Virginia "Ginger" Gonzales, Jenny Mares, Lucy Gonzales, and Adelina "Lolie" Ledoux.

Guadalupe will be remembered for his strength, compassion, and the deep love he had for his family and community. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.

Today, we say goodbye to our father, a man whose love transcended the boundaries of life and death. Though your physical presence has left us, our hearts are filled with a bittersweet understanding that you have been reunited with those who went before you.

To Dad: You have journeyed now to a place of peace, welcomed into the embrace of Julie, Grandma Adelina, Grandpa Jim, and your beloved brothers and sisters and friends. The sadness of your departure is softened by the beautiful image of your reunion – a family circle completed once more, whole and unbroken.

Your love continues to live in us, not diminished by distance, but transformed. We mourn, we remember, and we find comfort in knowing that you are now surrounded by the souls you have loved and missed for so long.

We once were your home. Now, you are home. Rest in eternal peace Papa.
