Obituary

Idalia "Dolly" Salas, 91, of Villanueva, NM, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She went peacefully in her home on The
Lazy Anchor Ranch in Villanueva surrounded by family.

Dolly was born in Santa Rosa, NM on August 22, 1933, to Carlos Rivera, Sr. and Matilda (Henderson) Rivera.

At the age of 15 her family moved to Los Angeles, CA. Dolly graduated from Lincoln HS in Los Angeles. On August 16, 1952, she married Jose Julian Salas of Santa Rosa, NM (who only referred to her as "Chicken") in East Los Angeles, CA. They were happily married for 66 years and had 5 children.

For the first 27 years of their marriage Jose was serving in the US Navy, moving Dolly and the family several times. While Jose was out at sea, for months at a time, Dolly took on the role of the single parent of 5, while simultaneously serving as liaison to the wives of all the enlisted sailors on his submarine. Dolly frequently drove many miles alone with the children to new duty stations, including an over 3000 mile trip completely across the country. They spent the last several years of service in Hawaii, where four of their children graduated from high
school.

In 1979 the couple retired to Villanueva, NM building a beautiful home, farming the land and becoming a part of the community.

Dolly is preceded in death by her husband, Jose J. Salas parents Carlos Rivera, Sr. and Matilda (Henderson) Rivera, her sister Margarita Rivera, brothers Carlos Rivera, Jr. and Trinidad Rivera, Sr.

She is survived by her children; Rose (Bobby) Gutierrez, Carmen (Efren) Pascual, Gilbert (Frances) Salas, Joanne Moreno and Susan (Tony) Wade; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and one great-great grandchild. Dolly is also survived by her loving sister Clorinda (Clorie) Romero of Lubbock, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dolly was an awesome wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family very much. Spoiling each of them with her wonderful home
cooked meals, made from scratch baked goodies and lots of love! She had a smile that was contagious and lit up the room and genuine heart
of gold. She will be so very missed by all who were blessed to know her.
