Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Irene Garcia, returned home to heaven to Jesus' loving embrace on October 12, 2023. She was the daughter of Emilio and Clorinda Martinez and was raised, along with seven other siblings, outside of Mora, New Mexico, in the El Carmen area.
Irene was a beautiful woman, inside and out. She had a warm smile and infectious laughter. She loved our Lord, Jesus Christ, and extended His love to her family and friends. While growing up, Irene and her family faithfully attended the Catholic Church.
Irene graduated from Mora High School and married Manuel "Savino" Garcia in 1954. To this loving, cherished union were two sons, Ray and Rudy. Due to Manuel's career with the railroad, the family relocated
several times, and Irene worked hard to make each home comfortable for her family. She was an exceptional cook and took pride in maintaining a spotless home. Irene also enjoyed gardening, attending dances, sharing meals with friends, shopping with her sisters, and playing card games.
After Manuel retired, they built a home near family In El Carmen, where they lived for many years, always grateful for their many friends and family nearby.
Irene is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Manuel, and sons, Ray (Lydia) and Rudy (Kay), along with three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One brother, Adam Martinez (Donna) of Salida, CO, and sister, Beatrice (Jake) Vigil of Cheyenne, WY, also survive. Irene will be reunited in heaven with her parents and siblings, Joe Martinez, Antonia Martinez, Emma Garcia, Angie Martinez, Mary Garcia, and Carmen Martinez.
