Obituary

Irinea Valdez (née Madrid) was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on January 1, 2026. She was born on November 16, 1951, in Anton Chico, New Mexico, to Salomon and Maria Amelia (Morales) Madrid.

Irinea was preceded in death by her beloved father, Salomon Madrid; her brother, Arthur Madrid; and her cherished grandson, Ashton Barreras.

She graduated from Muleshoe High School and continued her education at West Texas A&M University. Irinea built a successful career in finance, working for several organizations including Texas Commerce Bank and Amarillo Federal Credit Union in Amarillo, Texas. On May 11, 1996, she married the love of her life, Samuel Valdez. The couple later moved to Mora, New Mexico, where they began their life together. She was an active member of the Mora Catholic church.

Irinea had a generous heart and a deep passion for helping others, especially the elderly. She cherished her friends and family and was known for her magnificent homemade fudge. She had a huge heart and never turned anyone away when they needed a home. Her dedication to service led her to a career in nonprofit work, where she eventually retired as a Northeast Regional Manager.

She is survived by her loving husband, Samuel Valdez; her mother, Amelia of Las Vegas, New Mexico; siblings Joseph Louie Madrid and wife Debbie of Amarillo; Abranita "Brine" Elizarraraz and husband Luis of Northlake, Texas; Edubijen "Dubie" Aguirre and husband Amado Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; Geneva Brown and husband Darrell of Amarillo; Charles Madrid and wife Lucy of Mora; and Arnold Madrid and wife Jackqueline of Dallas, Texas.

Irinea is also survived by her children: Amanda "Marie" Nino; Gabriel Nino and wife Cayton of Amarillo; Tristen Valdez and wife Clarissa of Mora; Tanya (Valdez) Barreras and husband Enrique of Amarillo; and Donald of Mora. She was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Irinea found peace and joy in the mountains, where she loved riding her horse and caring for her animals/pets, cats, dogs, and cows. She also had a deep love for music and singing, often performing alongside her beloved cousin Larry Morales and her husband Samuel wherever they were welcomed.

Her warmth, compassion, and love for family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
