Obituary

J. Mike Trujillo, aged 76, rode off into the sunset on January 28, 2025 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Mike now joins the love of his life, Sandra, in the house of the Lord. He was born on June 25, 1948, raised and lived in Las Vegas his entire life. He lived a life marked by enthusiasm, his devotion to family, and a commitment to his profession, friends and community.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Cleofas & Consuelo Trujillo, In-Laws Sammy and Lily Martinez, brother in-law Nick Martinez and sister in-law Joyce Garduno.

He is survived by his cherished children, Diego & Francisca Trujillo, Michele Trujillo-Garcia and his precious grandchildren, Javier & Kristen, Diego and Gabriela Trujillo and Jeremiah and Maliyah Garcia. He also leaves behind his siblings, CT Trujillo, Anthony & Patsy Trujillo, Charmaine & Diego Griego, Tomasita "Tommy" Jaramillo. Also surviving him are his Siblings-in-law, Sammy Leroy & Cathy Martinez, David Martinez, Sammy Jr. & Geraldine Martinez, Julio Garduno, John & Diane Martinez, Barbara Martinez and numerous dear cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, treasured friends, especially his dog, Petra.

After graduating from West Las Vegas High School in 1966, Mike joined the US Navy. His tour took this small-town boy to Eastern Asia, far away from home, for 4 years. This was one of many highlights he spoke of as a defining moment in his lifetime. Upon his return to Las Vegas, with his new family, Mike began a 40-year career in banking. He cherished his banking career at the two local Las Vegas financial institutions. Mike's profession in banking was beyond his job, his desire was to help his community with accessing financial services and resources. One of Mike's most prized accomplishments was completing his degree in political science after retirement.

A lifelong and devout Las Vegan, Mike was a familiar face to many through his participation in the community as a musician, actor, comedian, committee and board member of various groups including Elks Lodge 408, Habitat for Humanity, Las Vegas Jaycees, Las Vegas City Council, and San Miguel County Democratic Party. He was a true Hermano de Las Vegas. Mike enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, horse riding and cooking on his "disco". He had many adventures with his friends on horse trail rides, camping, attending sporting events and doing ranch work. He enjoyed going to the Elks to see his fellow members whom he considered family. He had a passion for local, state and national politics. He often handed out pocket copies of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence because he wanted everyone to know what their citizen responsibilities were but especially wanted them to be aware of their rights. Mike always appreciated "staying home (in LV)" where he had plenty to do, but Sandra and family started inviting him on trips and he eventually agreed. He was charmed by the many places he visited and experiences he had, but he was always anxious to get back home to what he felt was his own paradise.

You could take Mike out of Las Vegas, but you could never take Las Vegas out of him. Family was his biggest delight. He marveled at each success his children and grandchildren had and was absolutely impressed by each milestone they reached. He felt they were reflections of him and Sandra's love and were representative of all he confidently expected they would be.
