Jason "Jay" Smith, a resident of Las Vegas, NM born November 12, 1966 passed away on January 15, 2025. Jason was a loving and caring spouse, son, brother, father, grandfather, nephew, and a true friend to many. He was a caring person to those he knew and others he had just met. He was a chef and auto mechanic for many years here in Las Vegas and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Jason is survived by Brenda Romero; son, Jason Smith Jr.; granddaughter, Hailie R. Smith and her mother Stacy Romero; daughter, Cherise Trujillo and son, Zayne Maez; uncle, Rudy De La O; sisters, Marie "Rhea" Shields & family, Kelly Fordyce & family; brothers, Carton "Tawny" Smith & family, Eric Smith, Oralia Romero, Clarence Romero, Melissa Romero and Chris Garcia, Bertha Esquibel, Niece Amor Romero and Gabriel, Nephews Jeremy Fernandez and Jacque, Derek Fernandez, Dominic Garcia, and Carl Esquibel, his close friend Jimmy "Jimbo" Penix, along with many other relatives and friends.
Jason was preceded in death by his father, Carton Smith Sr.; mother, Virginia De La O; father-in-law, Remijio "Remi" Romero; sons, Justin Smith and Michael Gallegos; aunt, Olga De La O, Julie Baca, Mark Baca, Estevan Baca, Rick Fordyce, Edward Shields, Charles Higgins.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 6:00 PM and the funeral mass will take place on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 9:00 AM both taking place at Our Lady of Sorrow's Church. Following the mass Jason will be laid to Holy rest at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
