Espinoza
September 5, 1945 – April 11, 2025
Joan was devoted to our dear Lord Jesus Christ, and to the Catholic Church. It is with heaviest hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother, Wife, Sister, Grandmother and Great Grandmother on April 11, 2025. Joan Espinoza, age 79 was a lifelong resident of Rainsville, NM and 12+ years of Las Vegas NM. She was surrounded by her loving family by her side until she took her last breathe.
She is preceded in death by her parents Fidel and Guerma Duran, her husband Jose T. Espinoza, her brothers Tony and Charlie Duran and her granddaughter Arianna Martinez. Now that she has arrived to the kingdom of Heaven she is reunited with them.
Joan became the beloved wife of Jose T. Espinoza on December 29, 1963. They were married for 50 years. She became the mother of 16 children (4 losses at birth). She is survived by her 12 children, 35 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Her children are Daniel D. Duran, Joe Espinoza Jr., Lawrence Espinoza, Clarissa Cordova, Andrew Espinoza, Matthew Espinoza, Michelle Espinoza, Yvonne Espinoza, Maxine Valdez, Joanie Espinoza, Jeanette Valdez, and Elizabeth Espinoza. She has numerous relatives, coworkers, neighbors and friends.
Joan retired from the Mora Independent Schools after 25 years. She worked as a kindergarten teacher aide, bus driver and cook. Joan was very loved and appreciated within her work years. Joan loved dancing and listening to her Spanish music. She also loved some rock and roll music. She loved watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play basketball and other sports. She was definitely their loudest fan in the stands. She was a hardcore Denver Broncos fan. She loved her ranch and raising her children and grandchildren there. She always enjoyed family events and spending time with everyone. She loved to travel and visit her sons and daughters. Joan considered herself the richest woman alive with such a beautiful family she created. She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her especially her family.
A Rosary will be held for her on Tuesday April 29, 2025 at 7:00 PM at St. Gertrude Church in Mora NM. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday April 30, 2025 at 10:00 AM with Father Dale Craig at St. Gertrude Church in Mora NM, her burial will immediately follow to the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rainsville NM. Serving as Pallbearers are her grandsons JJ Vigil, Rodney Cordova, Emmanuel Duran, Aaron Vasquez, Armando Valdez, Donnie Martinez, Matthew Trambley, and Jose Ortiz. Honorary Pallbearers are Justin Etherton, JoeHenry Herrera and all her grandchildren.
