Our beloved Joaquin Guadalupe Maes was born November 13, 1978, to Mary Maxine and Floyd Maes. He lived at the Cochiti Elementary School Teacherage in Pena Blanca, NM with his parents and siblings, Genevieve, Gertie, and Paul. He attended Cochiti Elementary School and graduated from Bernalillo High School. Joaquin was born with multiple disabilities, but he proved to be strong willed, determined, curious, loving, and sensitive. He spent the last four years of his life in Albuquerque, NM under the care of Ability First Agency in a group home with a caring and knowledgeable care staff.

On Sunday, February 18, 2024, he was peacefully called to Heaven. He leaves behind his parents, Floyd and Mary Maxine, his sisters Gertie (Kevin and Benjamin) and Genevieve (Louis, Michelle, Gabby, and Rebecca), his brother Paul (Kristin, Maddie, and Oscar), his care team, and countless relatives and friends, teachers, therapists, and caregivers whose lives he had touched.

Rosary will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in Mora, NM, followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 AM officiated by Father Paul Grala, S.O.L.T. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the VFW on Highway 518, Mora, NM, following the services.

Burial will he held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
