Our beloved Joe "Cale" Gallegos was called home by our Lord on April 3, 2025, at the age of 91. Joe was born on September 11, 1933, to Helen T. Gallegos in Tecolote, NM before later moving to Las Vegas, NM, where he would go onto build a life filled with love, faith and service.
A proud Veteran and devoted Catholic, Joe's unwavering commitment to his faith and his country shaped the man he was. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy, as a Korean War Veteran he displayed unwavering dedication and courage. He carried the values of honor and service throughout his life, always ready to share experiences and lessons learned from his time served in the military. After returning to Las Vegas, he devoted three decades to the U.S. Postal Service. His love for his community was further displayed when he became the proud owner of JC Lounge, as a local favorite where many would gather. When he wasn't working you could always find him hunting or fishing. Most importantly he enjoyed being with his wife, children, family and friends, if it was just at home or at gatherings, enjoying memories together.
He was preceded in death by his lovely mother Helen T. Gallegos, brother Fernando Gallegos, sister-in-law Vangie Gallegos, cousin Eloisa V. Montoya, daughter-in-law Teresa Gallegos.
He is survived by his wife Rose Gallegos, son Joseph Eloy Gallegos (Yvonne), daughters Lorinda Valdez (David), Doris Gallegos (Robert) Angela Garza, Jeannette Baca (Randy), Shirley Duddy (Richard), Kathy Garza sister Sandy Armstrong (Ken), Several precious grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Rosary service will be conducted on April 22, 2025, at 9am, Funeral will follow immediately thereafter with Father Rob with Full Military Honors. As both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30pm as the following Pallbearers are Desiree Mitchell, Tori Gallegos, Guadalupe Gallegos, Melanie Gallegos, Robert Anaya, David Valdez, Jason Valdez and Tristen Duran.
