John D. Mascareñas of Sapello, NM passed away on March 16, 2022. John D. was born on July 17, 1942 to Alfredo Mascareñas and Antonia Leger Mascareñas in Los Aguajes, New Mexico.
While John D. was a jack of all trades, his joys in life were raising Charolais cattle and AQHA horses.
John D. was preceded in death by his wife, Josie Gomez Mascareñas; father, Alfredo Mascareñas; mother, Antonia L. Mascareñas; brother, Alcadio N. Mascareñas; sister, Victoria Trujillo; father-in- law Patrocinio Gomez; mother-in-law, Clara Gomez; brothers-in-law, Gregory Marrujo and Venancio Trujillo; nephew, Alfred Mascareñas; and niece, Sheila Mascareñas-De Leon.
John D. is survived by his son, Marvin Mascareñas (Cheryl) of Ojitos Frios; daughters Ernestine Mascareñas of Sapello and Gwen Mascareñas (Robert) of Mora; granddaughters, Franchesca Valdez and Analisa Valdez of Sapello; great granddaugher and dancing partner, Sheilah "Cha-Cha" Mascareñas of Sapello; brother, Gilbert Mascareñas (JoAnn) of Brighton, CO; sister Ellen Vigil of Denver, CO; brothers-in-law Silviano Gomez (JoAnn), Jerry Gomez of Rociada; Mike Gomez (Joyce) of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Bernilda Marrujo of Mora; Ramoncita Gomez, Pauline Gomez of Rociada; Patricia Vigil (Rick) of Albuquerque; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Ben Mascareñas, Jr.; Gary Mascareñas; Henry Mascareñas; Sheilah Mascareñas; Steven Mascareñas; James Montoya; Daryl Trujillo; Roger Valdez; Christopher Vigil; David Vigil; and Dominic Vigil. Urn bearer, Robert Ortega.
Rosary Services will be conducted at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be conducted at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 9 a.m. Burial of cremains will be at the San Isidro Cemetery immediately following the mass.
