Obituary

Our beloved John Nash Mestas passed away on March 15, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on October 24, 1944. John served in the United States Army from December 1963 to December 1966. He achieved the rank of Sergeant E5 and worked as a Truckmaster driver.
John's service awards include, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Marksman Rifle Medal. Following his military service, John moved to Oakland California and worked on the docks and in the shipping yead for several years. He eventually moved back to Buena Vista, NM to care for his father and worked at Angel Fire Ski Resort as ski patrol. After meeting Viola, John moved to Las Vegas where he held several jobs as a car and manufactured home salesman, cashier and customer service representative at Hacienda Home Center, Romero's Feed and Supply, Lowe's Super Save Food Market, and Price's Home Furnishings.
John enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved to go fishing, working in the garden with Viola and cooking. Anyone who knew John, knew he enjoyed making people feel welcome and placing a smile on their face. His home was always open and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He passed these amazing attributes to his children and grandchildren. Rather than mourn his passing, John was the type of person who would want his loved ones and friends to celebrate his life and remember the times they shared.
John is preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Filia Mestas, and brother Art Mestas. He is survived by his wife Viola Mestas, Daughter Jacquita Mestas of California, Stepdaughter Sharon Jordan (Jonathan) Gallinas, NM, Sister's Barbara Mumolo, and June Blackmore, Buena Vista, NM. Grandchildren, Raquisha, Melvin, Anthony, Delone, John, Zachary, Hunter, and Oneisha. Great grandchildren Deja, Anaiyah, Jerious, Alana, Fidel, Kayla, Delone, John, and Aria. Many beloved nieces, and nephews. John had several friends, however, two of his closest were Johnny Gallegos and Tommy Kleinow.
