Johnny Bernal (Johnny B.) was born on September 2, 1943, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was raised in his beloved family home in Chacon, NM. Johnny attended elementary school in Las Vegas and Rociada, middle school in Holman, and high school in Mora, NM. After graduating from high school in 1962, Johnny attended Meat Cutting School in Toledo, Ohio. Upon completion, Johnny returned to New Mexico, where he worked as a meat cutter for the next 50 years.

In February 1970, he met the love of his life, Anne Therese Garcia, of Buena Vista, NM. They married on September 12, 1970. They welcomed their first son, Christopher John Bernal, in 1972. While Johnny maintained his lifetime job at the local grocery store, at one point, Johnny and Anne (along with a partner), owned and operated a slaughterhouse in Las Vegas, NM. His customers were very loyal and came from as far away as Colorado, to benefit from his skill set. His eldest son, Chris, has many fond memories of spending time there with his dad. In 1981, they welcomed a second son, Jonathan N. Bernal. In 1983, they welcomed a third son, Brian J. Bernal. Through the years, they enjoyed camping and fishing as a family. Brian tells of a time while fishing with his dad, he caught a fish and as he was taking it out of the water, dad tried to help, but the fish smacked dad in the face and he went tumbling down the hill, nearly landing in the creek!

As the years passed and the boys grew, so did the Bernal family. Johnny never had daughters of his own, but much to his dismay, he got three. In 2006, Johnny became a grandfather to Christopher A. Bernal, whom he took in as his fourth son. These two shared a special bond, especially during football season. Johnny was fortunate enough to see his eldest granddaughter, Sandra, get married last year. Johnny relished his role as a father, grandfather, and later as a great grandfather.

Johnny B. is loved by all; he will be missed. The moment he took his last breath, we understood that there would always be a part of us missing.

Dad/Grandpo, we love you and we miss you already. Please watch over all of us and keep us close. Love, your family!
