March 3, 1942 – December 7, 2024
Jose C. Maestas was born on March 3, 1942, in El Coyote, NM and passed away on December 7, 2024, in Las Vegas, NM surrounded by his family.
Mr. Maestas was a lifelong resident of Rainsville, NM. He was a heavy machine operator by trade, but also a farmer and rancher, raising horses, cattle, goats, sheep and pigs. He loved spending time with his family and visiting with his friends. He was happiest working outside on his tractors and other equipment.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Fabiola Maestas, his wife, Zella Maestas, his siblings Virginia Fernandez, Rose Martinez.
Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Edwin Maestas (Lynn) and sister Mabel Mondragon; his son, Al Maestas and wife Georgina; his daughter Eileen Maestas and his daughter-in-law Augusta Candelaria; grandchildren Nicole Maestas (Robert), Eric Coca (Maria), Rudy Coca (Kimberly), Rebecca Schenck (Austin); greatgrandchildren, Rickie Aguilar III, Ava and Kodi Coca, Bailee and Cambrie Coca, Romeo and Azalea Schenck; Alisia, Urijah, Evangeline and Riley Rivera; Godson, Mark Fernandez; special nieces Kathie Fernandez, Glenda Fernandez and husband Albino, Brianna Brito, and special nephew Lester Martinez and wife Diane.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to La Vida Buena nurses and staff for lovingly caring for our father.
We will celebrate his life with a rosary and funeral mass on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. He and his wife will be interred in Rainsville, NM in the Spring.
