Jose Esquiel Griego, age 74, a lifetime resident of Tecolote, NM passed to a better life on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 surrounded by his family home in Tecolote.

He was born on March 15, 1951 in Santa Anna, NM to Pablo and Barbarita Griego.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents Pablo and Barbarito Griego, daughter Rhonda Pacheco, brothers Simon, Francisco, and Ramon Griego.  As well as his sisters Erlinda Martinez and Petra Gonzales.

He is survived by his wife Catarina Dorothy Griego, sons Miguel Griego and wife Micaela, Jose Griego and Felix Griego.  Grandsons Felix Griego, Jr. and wife Shawntee, Emilio Griego, Jose Griego, Jr., and Andres Ortiz.  Granddaughters Tiana Griego, Destiny Griego, Monique Garcia and Selena Ortiz.  He is also survived by his brothers Ignacio Griego, Jacobo Griego and Santiago Griego.

Jose was a carpenter by trade.  He worked 25+ years in construction and loved it very much.  After retiring from construction, he took on wood cutting and hauling.  He was a very hard worker and enjoyed every minute of it.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandkids who were very special to him.  He also enjoyed his animals.  He was always tending his horses, cows, goats, chickens and his favorite dog Daisey who was always by his side.  He worked hard every day of his life until the Lord called him home.  He will be dearly missed.

A rosary will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM.  Funeral mass will be held on February 24, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM.  Burial will follow at the Tecolote Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Miguel Griego, Jose Griego, Felix Griego, Felix Griego, Jr., Emilio Griego and Jose Griego, Jr.  Family and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
