Our beloved Joe Horacio Lucero was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on April 30th, 2026.
Horace was born on January 5th, 1943, in Cuervo, NM. He held his faith close to his heart and was a pillar of the Las Vegas community, from starting his own grocery store to later owning Big O’ Tires. He was elected and served as probate judge in San Miguel County where he was known for his dedication. Horace was an exceptionally talented businessman and judge, known for his unwavering work ethic, which will be remembered by all who knew him.
He had a tremendous love for traveling and immersing himself in new cultures. He was also an avid outdoorsman who had a lifetime passion for hunting, taking him from the high desert terrain of New Mexico to adventures in Africa. His stories - of close encounters, successful hunts, and the beauty of the outdoors that reflected his deep respect for nature - will be cherished memories. In his later years, Horace enjoyed spending his mornings with friends at Daylight Donuts and Hillcrest Restaurant.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julie Martinez Lucero, their two sons, David Roy Lucero and Joe “Okie” Lucero, his brother Cruz Lucero and his sister Vangie Valencia. He is now reunited with them in eternal rest.

He is also survived by his three sisters, Mary, Martha, and Emilia, and his two brothers, Frank and Michael.
