On August 3, 2023, Jose B. (Bengie) Sanchez Sr., also known as Pajaro, age 79, was called home to be in the loving embrace of Our Lord. He was a life-long resident of Holman NM and was surrounded both in life and in death by his loving family, which was all he ever wanted. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro Sanchez and Ermelina Valdez Sanchez, son Jose Bengie Sanchez Jr., sisters Juanita Avila, Ninfa Maestas, and brother Alejandro Sanchez. He is survived by his daughters Rita Sanchez of Holman NM, Debra Sanchez (Michael Maes Jr.) of Holman NM, Valerie Montoya (Adam Montoya) of Rainsville NM; son Salvador Sanchez Sr. of Santa Fe NM; grandchildren Nicole Maestas (Robert Rivera) of Cimmaron NM, Ryan Sanchez Tafoya of Albuquerque NM, Mikayla Maes of Holman, Brandon Maes of Holman, Devon Maes (Stephannie Chandler) of Bloomfield NM, Brianna Maes of Holman, Alejandro, Lucas and Aviana Montoya of Rainsville NM, Flower, Salvador Jr. and Marisol Sanchez of Santa Fe NM; his three great grand-children, Rickie Aguilar III of Cimmaron NM, Analee Muniz of Holman NM, and Alex Maes of Bloomfield NM; and also by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Funeral services are scheduled as follows: Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM, Thursday, August 10th and Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 11th, in St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora NM with Father Paul Grala, SOLT, as celebrant.
Burial will follow at the Morada de San Isidro in Holman NM, with full Military Honors and the following serving as pallbearers: Salvador Sanchez Sr., Salvador Sanchez Jr., Brandon Maes, Devon Maes, Alejandro Montoya, Lucas Montoya, Rickie Aguilar III and Jesse Avila.
