Josephine
Romero
March 18, 1928 – May 26, 2026
Rogers Mortuary Chapel
Starts at 2:00 pm (Mountain time)
It is with profound sadness that the “Rock” of our family, has been called home on May 26, 2026, in the home of her daughter in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Born and raised in Taos, NM she made her home in Dixon, NM on July 19, 1951, when she married “the love of her life”-Jose Onesimo Romero. Together, they built a life of wholesomeness and a family of seven children-Roberta Elaine, Daniel Onesimo, Darlene, Johnny, Diana Elizabeth, Roy and Rupert Roger. Predeceased by her parents- Juan King Joseph, her mother-Edith Oakley Joseph, her sister-Emma Casias, her brother-Pete Joseph, her husband, her son-Roy and two granddaughters-Mary Edith and Sheri. They provided guidance and love for each of their children and grandchildren. Her biggest love was being around children and giving them unconditional love.
Josephine, also known as “Josie” and sometimes, Josefina, is survived by her children, to include Martha Joseph and their spouses and families. She was gifted to 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and survived by all except two. “Josie” was well known in her community and her church family-Embudo Presbyterian Church-located next door to her home and the local Senior Citizens in Dixon New Mexico. Nobody left her home without a treat from her kitchen. In addition, she cared for several family members besides her own and provided childcare for many in her home. All her grandchildren will be honorary pall bearers.
She will forever be remembered for her strong sense of family and community as well as being the best wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was truly a disciple of God. She had a heart of gold, never to be forgotten, she will always be in our hearts and the memories we shared will be forever cherished. MOM, Rest in Peace! ¡Vaya Con Dios!
Special thanks to those who were by our side during her journey including Amber Care Hospice Staff to include their Chaplain-Shirley Sandoval, Heritage Care- Vicki Gonzales, our friends and neighbors along with the unconditional love and support from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Extended gratitude for Father Rob from Our Lady of Sorrows, Rod Billingsley representing First Presbyterian Church, Sun-Day Martinez retired nurse and Juan Ortega for providing inspirational music as the excellent care provided by Alta Vista Hospital specifically Dr. Tafoya and nurse Mike Yara Jr.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 2:00pm at Rogers Mortuary Chapel in Las Vegas, NM, cremation will follow service and burial will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary 600 Reynolds Ave Las Vegas, NM 87701 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
