With a heart larger than life and a spirit more vibrant than the most brilliant sunrise, Josephine M. Vigil, 79, of Mora, NM, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Josephine's life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family and community.

Born on January 19, 1946, in Las Vegas, NM, to the late Ernest and Jeannine Martinez, Josephine married her beloved Benjamin R. Vigil on February 25, 1963, in Mora, NM. Their enduring companionship was the foundation of a life filled with love and joy, and together they raised three children: Dante, Darryl, and Danette, who were the light of her life.

Josephine dedicated 38 years of her life to serving the community as the Manager of The Bank of Las Vegas, now known as Southwest Capital Bank, where she was deeply respected by customers and colleagues alike for her warmth and professionalism.

Her love of family extended beyond her immediate circle, as Josephine was known for welcoming everyone with open arms. Whether it was the scent of her famous Texas cake, cinnamon rolls, or fresh tortillas, her home was always filled with the comforting aromas of food made with care and love.

Her faith was central to who she was. A lifelong member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, Josephine's belief was evident not just in her attendance at Mass, but in her everyday actions. She extended generosity and kindness to all she encountered and found joy in giving back to her community. As a proud member of the Altar Society, her devotion to others was ever-present.

Josephine's family finds comfort in knowing that she and her Beng are now two-stepping together again in heaven, their love continuing its timeless rhythm.

She is survived by her children: Dante Vigil (Theresa) of Mora, NM; Darryl Vigil of Albuquerque, NM; and Danette Vigil-Trujillo (Jeff) of Albuquerque, NM. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jacquelyn Sanchez (Marco) of Mora, NM; Jeannine Montgomery (Cliff) of Albuquerque, NM; Jaynae Vigil (fiancé Jordan) of Albuquerque, NM; Krista Koester (Jake) of Broomfield, CO; Mitchell Vigil (Camaree) of Albuquerque, NM; JJ Trujillo (Alyssa) of Albuquerque, NM; and Jennifer Trujillo (fiancé Nate) of Albuquerque, NM, along with eleven cherished great-grandchildren.

Josephine is also survived by her siblings: Kenneth Martinez (Patricia) of Las Vegas, NM; Leon Martinez (Susie) of Albuquerque, NM; Marian Olivas (JD) of Cleveland, NM; and Amy Martinez-Duran (Mario) of Mora, NM; brother-in-law, Charles Vigil (Lita) of Mora, NM; and sisters-in-law, Rebecca Vigil of Albuquerque, NM; Eleanor Hostetter of Santa Fe, NM; and Margie Aragon of Denver, CO; as well as her extended family, including nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin R. Vigil; her parents, Ernest and Jeannine Martinez; and her brothers, Glen and Lawrence Martinez. She was also preceded by her sister, Francine Maes; great grandson, JaVante Martinez-Doublin; in-laws, Flavio and Charlotte Vigil; brothers-in-law, Doroteo "Teo", Robert, Obed, and Frank Vigil; and sisters-in-law, Stella and June Vigil.

A rosary will be recited on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., both at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora, NM. Interment will follow at the Mora Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers; Mitchell Vigil, JJ Trujillo, Eric Martinez, Charles Martinez, Keith Griego, and Tyler Martinez.
