Juan "Johnny" Jose Martinez, 66, a resident of El Carmen, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. He was born on July 22, 1957, to Eugenio and Senaida Martinez.

Johnny was born and raised in El Carmen and graduated from the Mora schools in 1976. Johnny worked as a miner in New Mexico and Colorado and as an oil field worker in Denver. Johnny was always a hard worker throughout his life. He built his family home in 1987 in El Carmen where he resided for over 30 years. Those who knew Johnny knew him to be a kind, loving, hardworking, and funny father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

Johnny is preceded in death by his father Eugenio Martinez, his mother Senaida Martinez, brother Frank Martinez, brother Gilbert Martinez, brother in-law Leroy Abeyta, brother in-law Will Renteria, and nephew Max Valdez.

Johnny is survived by his children Gabrielle Martinez and Adrianna Martinez; his grandchildren Marissa Jaramillo, Ava Romero and Elijah Valencia; brothers Eugenio "Hatcha" Martinez (Gloria), Teodoro "Ted" Martinez (Betsy), and Willie Martinez (Joann); sisters Luisita Abeyta , Margie Renteria, Sophia Archuleta (Felix), Priscilla Garcia (Delano), and Linda Valdez (Michael); numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Rosary service will be held at 6pm on Thursday January 11, 2024, at St. Gertrude Parish in Mora New Mexico. Funeral will be conducted at 10am on January 12, 2024, at St. Gertrude Parish by Father Paul Grala S.O.L.T. The burial will take place at a later date. Serving as Pallbearers are Ted Martinez, Isaac Martinez, Elias Martinez, Geno Martinez, Eugenio Martinez, Angelo Archuleta, Jacob Archuleta, and Clarence Abeyta. Honorary Pallbearers are Elijah Valencia, Marissa Jaramillo and Ava Romero.
