Judy Ann Gurule, age 80, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born on April 27, 1943 in Las Vegas, NM to Ernest Harrison and Mary Lucy Trujillo. She attended New Mexico Highlands University where she received her teaching degree. She taught grade school at Valley Elementary school for 31 years and was known by many around the area as Ms. Gurule or Ms. G. She really loved teaching and doing special things for her students, they were near and dear to her heart. Many students speak fondly of her and always remember her bright, cheerful personality and bubbly ways.

Aside from teaching she loved bingo, going to the casino, and most of all, shopping. She was an avid reader and had a deep love of books. She could often be found at the Carnegie Library looking for her next read. People around town knew her well as she shopped several times a day at many local shops. She loved shoes, clothes, and jewelry, and her trademark sunglasses, which she wore often. She could always be seen smiling, laughing, or chatting with someone; no one was a stranger to her.

Judy always said her best gifts in life were her daughter and grand-kids. She loved to spoil them with gifts or take them on outings to the library or for ice cream at Plaza Drugs. She was very proud of her little family, doting on them often. She spent a lot of time in Raton and Las Vegas with her daughter and grand-kids.

Judy is preceded in death by her grandparents, Cleofas and Annie Trujillo; her parents, Ernest and Mary Lucy Harrison; and various family members. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Melanie Lynn Gurule.

She is survived by her daughter; Monica Alderette (Gilbert Almanza Jr), her beloved grandchildren, Melanie Doubt (Justin), Ezekiel Alderette, and Jacob Alderette, her brother Earl Harrison (Josephine); sister Carol Arellanes (Richard); nephews, Ernie Harrison (Lisa), Daniel Harrison (Bridget); niece, Andrea Arellanes(Israel) and many extended family members.

Judy was cremated and her funeral mass will be held on her birthday, Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10am with Father Rob Yaksich as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
