Well known and respected husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, coach and mentor Julian Rains passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023. He was born June 4, 1940 in Rainsville, NM to Salome & Eduardo Rains.

Julian was preceded in death by his parents Eduardo & Salome Rains, his son, baby Edward Rains, brothers, Ramon Valdez & Fares Rains, mother-in law Julia Martinez and father-in-law Joe Romero.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Joann, his children April (Danny), Gail, Diego (Jenelle), the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren JD, Maile, Jeremy, Santiago (Anjelique), Rico (Syd), D'Mario, Kaleb, Kaylianna, Vanessa & Kayla. He is also survived by his sisters Eva Archuleta, Lila Aragon, Anne Regensberg, Rupie Tafoya and their families and numerous sisters and brothers in law.

Julian was a Marine who lived his life Semper fi all day every day. After his military tour, he was a police officer for the City of Las Vegas for 4 years, after which he went on to get his BA degree from Highlands University.  He retired from the State of NM as an Investigator for the Human Services Department and was a local business owner for 33 years.  Julian was a coach for the Las Vegas Little League for 38 years at which time he coached and mentored many young men and women.  Coaching was his true passion, and he left a mark in the lives of all the players he coached. Throughout his coaching years, Julian would go to the flea market, and purchase bikes for the kids who needed a way to get to practice.  He would also purchase gloves and rethread them for the kids who didn't have one.  At the end of the season, he would give each kid a ball to practice in the off season to be ready for next year.

Julian also had a passion for playing pool and he loved his pool buddies as much  as he loved the game.  He was a member of the local Elks Club, VFW and Eagles Lodge.  He also had a love of the outdoors and hunting, which he shared with his son, grandkids and numerous hunting Bros.

Julian will be missed by many as he touched so many lives in his 83 years on this earth.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 at 10:00am at the Immaculate Conception Church with a Celebration of Life immediately following at the Father George Salazar Catholic Center.  A private burial will be held at a later date at the Angel Fire Veterans Cemetery.
