Obituary

Julius Phillip "Sonny" Romero, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Albuquerque, NM, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 1, 1935, in Las Vegas, NM, Sonny spent a brief time in California in the early 60's with his young family before returning to NM, where he and his wife raised their three daughters, a role he held dear.

Six months ago, Sonny bid farewell to his soulmate, our loving mother, Polly. After a remarkable 69 years of marriage, they left behind a life brimming with love, laughter, travel and unforgettable memories. Sonny is survived by his daughters Diane Moore (David), Sandra Jackson (John), and April Naranjo; grandchildren Jason Moore (Samantha), Ashley Moore (Tina), Taylor Fine (Mike), Brian Jackson, Erin Fleming (Dusty), Jayce Jackson (Rylie), Taliah Chapman (Rett), Lauren Naranjo (Martin); six great grandchildren; brothers David, James and George and their families; sisters-in-law Frances, Viola and Darlene (Aaron) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his father Julius, mother Stephanie, sister Jacque, and brothers Dennis and Richard. Sonny was also a proud member of the Elks, IBEW, and the Over the Hill Car Club.

After honorably answering his country's call to military service in the United States Army, Sonny spent his life working hard as an electrician, a career that showcased his remarkable skills and dedication. As a car aficionado, he was often spotted admiring or working on his favorite vehicles, or at a car show with his "Over the Hill Car Club" buddies. His love for the open road was shared with Polly, as they embarked on countless adventures together, discovering new places, and creating cherished memories.

With a sweet tooth that could rival any candy store, Sonny found happiness in indulging in his favorite treats, whether it was cookies, or a secret stash of candy. He will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous spirit, his zest for life, and the happiness he spread to everyone he met. Sonny leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will warm the hearts of family and friends forever.

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., Immaculate Conception (IC) Church, 811 6th Street in Las Vegas, NM.
