Obituary

Justin James Gallegos best known as "JJ" passed away August 23, 2025 after a long battle with illness. He was born May 8, 1987 to Jimmy and Judy Gallegos in Las Vegas, NM.

JJ is preceded in death by his father Jimmy Gallegos, mother Judy Gallegos and Step Father Moises Trujillo.

He is survived by his older brother Joseph Gallegos. Adopted Sister Mia Yara. Nieces Chloe Yara (Austin) and Donna Miller. Nephew Caleb Miller. Aunts Maribeth Bachert, Geraldine Baca, Angela Sanchez and Uncle Pablo Sanchez. He is also survived by several cousins and adopted family and friends whom he considered family.

JJ graduated from Robertson high school in 2006. He lived in Las Vegas, NM most of his life and enjoyed traveling for extended stays with family in Colorado and Guadalupita NM at the family ranch. JJ was a member of the Masonic lodge #22 in Las Vegas NM since February 2020 and was recently voted as an Honorary Past Master of Union Lodge number 4. He enjoyed participating in many of the community outreach events with his lodge brothers such as their monthly benefit breakfasts, Scottish Rights, and their annual Halloween Haunted house.

He also had a love for going on random adventures all over the state. You would always hear him talking about the different historical areas or churches that he saw on his trips. Showing or sharing with everyone on social media all the beautiful pictures he captures on his adventures.

His greatest love in life was the love of family. He would talk about his mom all the time and how much he loved and missed her. He looked up to his older brother Joseph and enjoyed times they would hang out at concerts or at the family ranch. JJ and his brother always made it a point to pay respects or visit graves of their loved ones who have passed. This was a tradition they built a strong bond over. JJ was always at his sister Mia's house for family gatherings and meals or going on adventures with Mia and his nieces and nephew.

JJ was well known in the community and among friends for his quiet personality but wonderful big smile. He would light up a room with his smile. He may have been quiet most of the time but he always would like to joke around and talk to people around him. He will be truly missed and never forgotten by his family and friends and those he touched throughout his life.
