Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Maria Emilia (Emily) Abeyta passed away on July 26, 20 25, surrounded by her loved ones at Alta Vista Regional Hospital. Emily was born to Abedon Ortiz and Maria Ignacia Ortiz on December 25, 1939, in Rociada, New Mexico. She lived in the surrounding areas of Las Vegas, New Mexico her entire life. She was united in marriage to Juan B. Leo Ortiz on June 29, 1968, until his tragic death in 1978. On July 18, 1980, she married Jose Felipe Abeyta and were married for 29 years until his passing in 2009.

Emily was a lifelong catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows, She was a former member of Catholic Daughters and the Lions Clubs. Emily loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her extended family. She loved picking pinon, gardening, crocheting, listening to Spanish music, dancing, and looked forward to her visits with her family and friends. Emily enjoyed going to the bingo and casinos. She always liked playing her $3.00 crossword lottery tickets and playing poker with her family. When it came to poker she was a card shark,

Emily is preceded in death by her husband's Juan B Leo Ortiz and Jose Felipe Abeyta and her son Philip Ortiz.  Her parents Abedon Ortiz and Maria Ignacia Ortiz, Her mother-in-law Mary Sanders Corale, Juan Ortiz, and Louis Sanders. Her great aunt Maria Encarnacion Paiz.  Her brothers Charlie Ortiz, Juan Ortiz, Ricardo Ortiz, Abedon Ortiz Jr. and sister Martina Martinez.

She is survived by her son, Anthony Ortiz ( Jane) and their children Anthony Ortiz Jr. and Ryan Ortiz. Her daughter Denise Ortiz ( Troy) and her children Ashlee Lucero ( Justina, Noah, and CJ). Dwayne Lucero ( James , Scarlette, and Vanessa), Brandon Lucero ( Araya) ( Devin and Payton Ray).  Ignacita Arranaga and her children Megan Baca ( David ) (Alijah, Avah, Mia, Alex, and Ayden) and Melina Montano ( Joseph) ( Caydence and Carly),  Her son Victor Abeyta (Josephine) and their children Victor Abeyta Jr. ( Angellica (Fermin) , Zachary ( Jayden), and Braiden), Joseph Abeyta ( Nicole) ( Tristen and Tyler) , and Sabrina Abeyta (Trent)  Her stepchildren Velma Salazar, Thresa Hernandez ( Daniel), Ralph Abeyta ( Janet), Leticia Padilla ( Lupe), Leroy Abeyta ( Loyda) ,and Gloria Abeyta. Her brothers Jose Ortiz, Manuel Ortiz (Debbie) and her sister Helen Lujan.  Her Brother in laws Gary Ortiz ( Rosa), Lloyd Sanders (Terry). Sister in laws Mary Jean Martinez, Patrica Sanchez (Phillip), and Cara Ortega ( Ron). Her God Children Anita Ortiz, Virginia Trujillo,  Clara Lujan, Rebecca Tafoya, Viola Mondragon, Patrick Lujan, Megan Baca and Ryan Ortiz. Many special nieces and nephews there are too many to count.

Services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Our Lady of Sorrow Church, rosary starting at 9:00 a.m.  burial mass at 9:30a.m.

Burial of cremains will take place following mass at the Santo Nino Cemetery in Rociada, New Mexico. Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Abeyta, Dwayne Lucero, Anthony Ortiz Jr, Brandon Lucero Joseph Montano, David Lucero, and Ryan Ortiz.  Honorary pallbearers will be all her great grandchildren Card givers will be Alijah Baca and Ava Baca,
