Maria "Rita" Trujillo, 98, a resident of Tecolote, NM, passed away on October 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Rita was born on April 12, 1928, in La Manga, NM, Monico Solano and Selenir Ortega Solano. She married Jose Isabel Trujillo on January 20, 1947.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Isabel; infant child, Sesarita Trujillo; parents, Monico and Selenir Solano; grandson, Ruben Romero; daughter-in-law, Lori Trujillo; sister, Lucaria Pacheco; brothers, Luis Solano, Polin Solano, and Antonio Solano; and numerous other relatives.

She is survived by her children: Bernardo Trujillo of Denver, CO; Priscilla (Nayo) Sandoval of Tecolote, NM; Trini (Charlie) Romero of Denver, CO; Nasha (Jerry) Carrasco of Reno, NV; and Louella (Jerry) Dimas of Tecolote, NM; sisters, Carolina Espinoza and Delicia Pacheco of Tecolote, NM; 17 grandkids, 34 great-grandkids, and 15 great-great-grandkids.

Her family will always remember Rita as a patient, kind, and gentle soul who was loved by many. She always enjoyed company, playing and teaching the grandkids how to play cards, playing bingo, listening to music, singing, having a glass of wine, and cooking and baking for her family.

She contributed her hard work both in and out of the house to help raise her family. She was a devout Catholic who prayed the rosary daily. She will be missed dearly by her family, and the memories that were made will be cherished forever. Descanse en Paz, Mom/Gramita, until we meet again.

Rosary will be recited on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 6:00 pm and the funeral mass will be held Monday, October 19, 2026, at 10:00 am; both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at the Santo Niňo Cemetery in La Manga, NM with the following as pallbearers Carlos "Lalo" Romero, Martin Romero, Isaias "Si" Avila, Joey Avila, Mateo Olivas and Rich Hoffschnieder. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids.
