Obituary

Marjorie Madrid a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away peacefully on January 26th surrounded by her family.

She was born on Nov 27th 1923 in Trementina, NM to the late Valentin and Odelia Madrid. She is preceded in death by her parents, her oldest son Antonio "Tony" Madrid, and grandson Jay Madrid, her brothers - Alejandro, Perfecto, and Percy Madrid, and her sisters - Rafelita Pacheco, Julia Garcia, Dolores Madrid, Drucilla Quintana, Adela Trujillo, Flora Cartwright, and Polly Vialpando.

In her youth she was employed by the Javal Parachute Company, Murphey's Drugstore and The Moccasin Factory in Santa Fe, NM.

The majority of her later years were spent as a caregiver to her mother, sister, grandchildren and her oldest son. She was a selfless, strong, compassionate woman who loved her family dearly. During that time, she also enjoyed selling AVON part-time. She had a generous heart and probably gave away more than she ever sold.

She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. She enjoyed reading the Bible, praying, sewing, quilting, gardening, making puzzles, and baking. She loved teaching her grandchildren (especially the boys) how to sew. She had just recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

She is survived by her son Henry "Hank" Madrid (Yolanda), and daughter Nancy Johnsen. Her grandchildren, Robyn Jaureguiberry (Josef), Marcus Madrid (Tamara), Kevyn Madrid (Mayte), Antoinette Madrid and Phil Madrid. Her great grandchildren Analicia, Marcus Jr, Kevyn Jr., Jay Jr., and Gene (Mouse), Christian, Mikayla, Kamilah, Richard, Faith, Jade and Eli. Her only surviving sibling Petra McClure (Howard) of Pensacola, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff from the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute. We are very grateful for the professional care she received there.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Jr, Kevyn Jr., Jay Jr., & Gene Madrid and Christian and Josef Jaureguiberry.

A rosary will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church and the funeral mass will be immediately after. The interment will follow the church services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary, 600 Reynolds Ave., Las Vegas, NM 87701, (505) 425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
