Martha Louise Kontos, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 12th, 2023 in Las Vegas, NM. She was born on March 1st, 1934 in Denver, CO to Louisa Nieto, and Edward Gallegos. Martha was adopted by Ezequiel Sr. and Rebecca Nieto at a very young age, and was loved and raised like one of their own. A very gentle and fun loving woman, Martha loved quilting for her family, of which her quilts won her many awards, of which she was always selfless. Martha was the first Homecoming Queen of West High School who wasn't a senior, she was voted on by the football team only being in 10th grade at the time. Martha also played a variety of musical instruments in the school marching band. Preceded in death by her brothers; Felipe, Ezequiel Jr, Arturo, Juan, and Felix; her sisters Victoriana Roybal, Ramona Moore, and Aurora Ortiz, a host of other relatives and friends, and most of all her beloved husband whom she met in 3rd grade, and married on June 8th, 1952; Angelo Kontos, US Naval officer. Angelo was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii where they lived for 9 years, completely enamored with one another, making countless romantic memories. Survived by her three children; Dolores Emerson, Angela Zunino, and Victor Angelo Kontos, as well as their four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She will be forever remembered and treasured by all who've known her.
Rosary service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 9:00am funeral mass will follow both services to be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM, with Father Rob Yaksich as celebrant, Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 1:30pm
