Obituary

A beloved husband, Martin Garcia, 64 of Villanueva, NM passed away peacefully (with his wife Patricia Garcia by his side) on December 20, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on August 2, 1960, to the late Sinforosa Garcia. Martin made his home in Villanueva, NM where he and Patricia happily enjoyed their life together.

Martin graduated from West Las Vegas in 1978 where he had a successful basketball career. He held the state record for most points in a state tournament game by a player.

Martin started with the New Mexico Department of Transportation in February of 1989. He first worked in Clines Corners, then Santa Fe, and ended his career in Cerrillos. He retired in November 2012.

Martin married Patricia Gallegos in July of 1989 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and they made their home in Villanueva, NM until present.

Martin was a devoted catholic and a life-long parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Villanueva, NM.

Martin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Daniel and Julianita Garcia, his mom Sinforosa Garcia, his in-laws Juan and Carolina Gallegos, his brother-in-law Charles Gallegos, and special uncles (Roy, Jose and Larry).

Martin is survived by his wife Patricia (and best friend) of 35 years, his sister Theresa Burtis (Jay) from Randalstown, Maryland, his uncle Trinidad (Georgia), aunts Beatrice Moya, Rosabel, and Delfinia Gallegos (Andres). Martin was raised/grew up with his grandparents Daniel and Julia Garcia. His siblings from upbringing are Prescilla Ortega-Mathis (Ray), Dalia Maestas (Jose), and Daniel Garcia, Jr. He is also survived by his loving in-laws Joe Gallegos, Jerry Gallegos (Dawna), and Phyllis Gallegos and his god children Heather Gonzales, Giovanni Gallegos, Kenneth Marrujo, Florian Villanueva, Hadria Bella Tena, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Martin cherished his time with Patricia. Together, they loved tending to their cows, each of which had an individual name. He found joy in working in the fields, growing and bailing hay, and riding out into the mountains to soak in the peaceful quiet. He also enjoyed going to the Horse Races where he made many friends, was a Dallas Cowboy fan he and Patricia enjoyed watching the games on a regular basis. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Amber Care for their services.

A viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 5:00 pm, followed by the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 6:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 10:00 am with Fr. Vincent Dominguez officiating. All services to be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Villanueva, NM. Martin will be laid to rest at the family cemetery, Nuestra Señora Del Perpetuo Socorro in Los Trigos (El Pueblo), NM with the following serving as pallbearers; Carlos Gallegos, Leo Maestas, Kenneth Marrujo, Luke Garduno, Mariano Gallegos, Frank Gutierrez, James Ortiz, and Edward Madrid. Honorary pallbearers include Heather Gonzalez, Giovanni Gallegos, Florian Villanueva, Hadria Bella Tena and Edward Lovato.
