Obituary

It's with heavy hearts that we announce Martin Sandoval Sr., was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025. He was born on July 12th, 1926, to Canuto and Francisquita Sandoval in beautiful El Carmen NM. Martin was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, Nino and friend. Martin attended and graduated from St. GertrudeSchool in Mora, before joining the United States Navy in 1944. After his Naval service Martin came back to El Carmen where he became a beloved rancher in the area, known for his hard work, dedication and unwavering love for his family. He took pride tending to his cattle and maintaining his fields and crops. He was also a bus driver for the Mora Independent Schools for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed many a drive to Clayton NM to buy and sell livestock, as well as his routine trips to the local casinos in Española and Taos. Martin married Mildred Branch on July 17, 1948, in Mora, NM. His "Millie" was his life partner for 76 amazing years. Their marriage was a love story that spanned generations, a testament to the enduring power of commitment, companionship, and faith they had in each other. Mildred survives him at the family home.

Martin was preceded in death by his beloved son Martin "Teen" Sandoval Jr, his parents, siblings and in-laws: Victoria & Sam, Ida & Elith, Elvira & Max, Eloisa & Fabian, Gloria & Jake, Sister Mary Carmen, Louie, Leola and granddaughter Roberta.

Martin is survived by his children, Anthony (Olivia), James (Lucille), Frances (Albert), Gene, Lawrence (Evenne), Doris (Randy), Leonard (Bel) and daughter-in-law Debbie. Brother Emilio Sandoval, Sister Elisea Rodriguez, sister-in-law's Pauline Rodriguez, Emily Clayton, Catalina and Marcella Branch. Grandchildren Diane (Alan), Cheryl (Pedro), Nicole (Ron), Alicia (Clarence), Tanya (Jake), James (Davette), Kenny (Tarah), Marty, Melissa, Albert Jr., Francisco (Kristina), Geno (Brandi), Amanda (Angelo), Ian, Noah, Faith, Monique (Paco), Brittany (David) and Andrea (Joe). Great grandchildren: Elisia, Sierra, Lilly, Devyn, Jordan, Jonavin, David James, Caleb, Damon, Dezmon, Jaxon, Xavier, Brielle, Santos, Mateo, Alyssa, Ayzlyn, Andreus, Isaias, Salem, Daniel, Gabriel, Alivia and Jo Jo. Great-great grandchildren Jaelan, Ezra and Joe.

Martin's family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his work ethic, his enthusiasm for dancing, his unique sense of humor and his passion for storytelling. His spirit lives on in the values he instilled, the lessons he taught, and the abundance of love he gave us.

An extended thanks to Dr. Michael and Ginny Lopez and Anvoi Health Care nurses and employees for the excellent care given to Martin.

Rosary service will be conducted on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 6:00om. Funeral mass will be recited on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 10:00am with Father Dale Craig S.O.L.T. as celebrant both services will be held at St. Gertrude Church in Mora, NM, Interment will follow at El Carmen Cemetery in El Carmen, NM with the following serving as Pallbearers are his grandsons, Jimmo Sandoval, Geno Sandoval, Kenny Sandoval, Albert Martinez Jr., Martin Sandoval, Francisco Martinez, Ian Sandoval and Noah Sandoval.
