Obituary

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Mary Helen Coca Sandoval, December 30, 2024, at her home in Colorado Springs surrounded by her loved ones. Helen was born to Nicolas Coca Sr. and Tomasita Martinez Coca on March 18, 1948, in Las Vegas NM.

Helen was a wife, mother, sister, niece, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Helen graduated from West Las Vegas High School and attended Luna Community College. She worked in many nursing homes as a care giver in Colorado. She then took care of many of her grandchildren.

Helen loved her husband, Atanacio Sandoval, whom she shared her life and love in Colorado for 57 years. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1967. They then made a life together and had three wonderful girls- Tina, Pam and Lydia. Helen was known for feisty personality. She loved her grandchildren. She loved her New Mexico music and dancing. She enjoyed bingo, casinos and yard sales. Helen lived her life to the fullest!

Helen is preceded in death by her father and mother Nicolas Coca Sr and Tomasita Martinez Coca. Her in laws Daniel and Lydia Sandoval, and Grandma Julia Sanchez. Also, her great grandson, Angelo Sandoval, sister Margeret Downs, brother Micheal Coca, sister Cirilia Coca and Jenny Coca, her son in-in-law Derrick Deaguero. Her sister in-laws Louisa Coca, Sophie Coca, Julia Gomez (husband Eddie Gomez). Her nephews Lawrence Gomez and Eddie Gomez Jr., niece Miranda Coca, sister in-law Joyce Garduño.

She is survived by her Husband of the family home, Atanacio Sandoval. Her children Tina, Pamela Sandoval (Josephine Sandoval), Lydia Deaguero. Her grandchildren Sabrina Garcia, Selena Morton (Tristan), Jeron Martinez, Koleen Sandoval, Frankie Gomez (Daniela), Nicole Gomez, Jacob Gomez, John Hartwick (Andrea), Jazmyne Hartwick (Dom), Marie Elena "Ariel' Sandoval, Antonio Sandoval, Josiah Medina and Jonah Medina. Her great grandchildren Alencia Gallegos, Gabriel Garcia, Adilina Deaguero, Rayna Mcgee, Layla Mcgee, Aliyah Mcgee, Xzavier Mcgee, Tina Mcgee, Andrew Mcgee, Ambroze Gomez, Casiaz Gomez, Slyvia Gomez, Santino Gomez and great grandson Nathaniel Jr. Lujan. Brothers Jerry Coca, Joe Coca, Salvador Coca (Inez), John Coca (Connie), Nick Coca (Mae Coca), Pete Coca (Christine), Benny Coca, sister in-law Josephine Leger, brother in-law Daniel Sandoval. Numerous Nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers for services will be Frankie Gomez, John Hartwick, Danny Sandoval, Antonio Sandoval, Jeron Martinez and Koleen Sandoval.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry, Joe, Sal, John, Nick Jr., Pete, Benny- Coca brothers, and special friend Matthew Janssen.

The viewing for Mary "Helen" Coca Sandoval with be at Rogers Mortuary on Tuesday January 7, 2025, from 2-5pm.

Funeral services will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Church (403 Valencia Street) on January 8, 2025. Rosary starting at 9 a.m., with mass to follow with Father Rob Yaksich as celebrant. The funeral service will be live streamed at www.oloslasvegas.org or Facebook page Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Burial will be announced at a later date.
