Obituary

On July 1st, 2026, the Lord welcomed our beloved Mother Mary Jaramillo into His Kingdom of Heaven. She was born on March 28th, 1934, in Sheridan, New Mexico, to the union of Nicolas and Adelia Ortiz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and spouses: Gumencindo (Flora) Ortiz, Jose Ortiz, Theodoro Ortiz, Porfiro (Isabel) Ortiz, Arturo (Helena) Ortiz, Apolonio (Beatrice) Ortiz, Benny Ortiz, Gertrudes (Ramon)Martinez, Rosario (Blas) Trujillo, Eleonora (Reducindo) Trujillo, father of her children, Jose P. Jaramillo, and son-in-law Ben Romero, who was also her “handyman” always willing to fix anything that needed fixing in her home.

She is survived by her children: Ruben (Rose) Ortiz, Anthony (Elaine, AKA mom’s BFF), Jaramillo, Anabelle Romero, Bernice (Steven) Gallegos, and Cindy (Dennis) Esquibel. Grandchildren: Angela (Rodney), Melissa (Lawrence), Antonette (Robert), Michele (Robert), Eric (Kat), Ramon (Alexandra), Andres (Krista), Kristina (Richard), Amanda, Joshua, and Jacob. Great‑grandchildren: Elijah, Estevan, Robert Jr., Gilbert, Sophia, Noah, Valiant, Vitoria, Randy, Anna, Marissa, Mia, Augustine, Aurelia, Amaleah, and Jace, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Our Mamacita will be missed beyond words. She lived in Texas, California, and Idaho as a proud military spouse. She worked many years as a meat processor where she was lovingly referred to as “Mom” and volunteered as a senior companion. Her Catholic faith was unwavering — she prayed for everyone, always.

Mom was a wonderful cook, always preparing a meal for anyone who came to visit. She loved her little casita — always immaculate and cozy. She enjoyed going on rides, eating her favorite ice cream, coffee, and two lemon cookies. She read constantly and loved her “puzzle books”. Like clockwork, every day at 4:00 p.m., she would say “Las nuevas,” switching the TV to the news — always with her “lippy sticky” on and her nails polished.

Until we see each other again, beautiful Mama, keep watching and praying over us in Heaven.

The family would like to send our sincere Thank you to everyone who helped care for our mother. She received excellent care everywhere she was, from her provider Dr. Tafoya and staff, First responders, AVRH, Meadows, UNM and Compassus Hospice. We are eternally grateful for the are you all provided to our mother and the family when she needed it most.

Rosary will be recited Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 6:00 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral mass will be conducted Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Urne bearers will be Anthony Jaramillo, Ramon Romero, and Antionette Jaramillo.
