Mathias Ben
Hoogerhuis
October 18, 1944 – July 26, 2025
Mathias "Ben" Hoogerhuis, born on October 18, 1944, 80 years old, passed away on July 26, 2025. Mathias was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Cleotilde Hoogerhuis, wife, Peggy Hoogerhuis, son, Ronald, daughter, Diane, and brothers, Dick and John Hoogerhuis.
He is survived by his son Teddy and wife Deborah Trujillo, He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Otero, Barbara and husband Earl Jaramillo, brothers, Edward and Raymond and wife Louise Hoogerhuis. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, and special nephews and nieces. Ben was especially grateful for his special niece Madeline Mascarenas, for her assistance in caring for him.
Ben graduated from Robertson High School in 1963. He loved sports and had a passion for basketball. His talent earned him a starting position for the Robertson Cardinals. He was popular for an exceptional level of shooting accuracy with his legendary jump shot.
Ben attended St. Marcos Tech School in Texas, earning his meat cutting certification. He went on to work as a butcher for Safeway Grocery in Las Vegas. Ben also went on continuing to use his meat cutting expertise at Camp Luna, Job Corp. Later in his career, Ben retired from The NM Behavioral Health Institute, specializing as a Tech in the Forensics Unit.
Though deeply missed, Ben's memory will live on in the hunting and fishing stories recounted, by his family members and closest friends. May we find comfort in knowing that Ben's spirit is now at peace. "Forever in our Hearts"
Rosary service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 9:00am funeral mass will follow both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM with Father Rob Yaksich as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM with the following serving as Pallbearers; Teddy Trujillo Jr. (grandson), Kimberly Vigil (granddaughter), Isidro Mascarenas (nephew), Jason Hoogerhuis (nephew), Matthew Romero (nephew), and Earl Gonzales (friend).
