Michael Wayne
Blair
December 17, 1956 – December 2, 2024
Michael passed away unexpectedly at the Lovelace Heart Hospital on Monday, December 2, 2024 just shy of his 68th birthday, with his loving wife of 42 years Vangie, by his side.
Michael was a native of Wayne, MI. He moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1980 where he met the love of his life Vangie. They were married in Las Vegas, NM in 1982 and then moved here in 1999 where they have resided for the past 25 years.
Michael recently retired from the City of Las Vegas where he was employed for over 23 years.
Michael was a laid back, easy going guy who never met a stranger, everyone was a friend.
To know him was to love him and he was loved by many. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his wife and he planned to do just that when he retired. Mike was also a music guy. He loved the Beatles, John Lennon, David Bowie, Alice Cooper and rock and roll in general. He was the guitar man with a very "slow hand Clapton-esque" style and played in a few different bands, in bars and clubs all over Phoenix for many years. He was always ready for a good joke and told plenty of corny ones. But anyone who knew Blair, knew that what he loved the most was Vangie and he never shied away from an opportunity to say so, she was his world and he was hers and he would've moved heaven and earth for her.
He is preceded in death by his mother Gwen and step-father Jack Fair, his in-laws Ernest and Pauline Chavez, his sister Vickie and brother in law Ramon Chavez.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Vangie of Las Vegas, NM, his brother Mark Blair and wife Sandy of Phoenix, AZ, sisters Valerie McCleoud and Terry Hammer (Walt) of Florida, his brother in laws Mike Chavez and wife Margaret, Curly Chavez and wife Maria, James Chavez and Frankie Encinias, sister in laws Charlynne Otero and Kathy Houk of Las Vegas, nephews and nieces Amanda Gonzales (Lawrence), Barbara Chavez-Martinez (Vidal), Mike Chavez, Melissa Garcia (Tom), Aubrie Chavez, Carlos Chavez, Ramon Chavez, Jessica Chavez and Roger Houk all of Las Vegas, along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 beginning at 2:00 pm to be followed immediately by the funeral mass at approximately 2:30 pm. Serving as pallbearers are Mike Chavez II, Roger Houk, Ethan Martinez, Vidal Martinez, Jerry "Peanut" Chavez, Austin Arguello, Lawrence Gonzales, II, and Tom Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Chavez, James Chavez, Curly Chavez, Frankie Encinias, Mark Blair and Michael Postel. Cremation will take place after services and burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary, 600 Reynolds Ave., Las Vegas, NM 87701, 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
