Michael Varela, a longtime resident of Pecos, NM, joined our Heavenly Father in his peaceful passing on June 12, 2024. Having a heart purer than gold, Michael was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He would put others before himself always, and would willfully give the clothes off his back, the food off his table, and anything else he had to someone in need. He was grateful for what he had and enjoyed life through his hobbies and family. Whether it was training a horse, getting wood in his bright red dodge, or enjoying the day outside on the porch admiring God's work. He was guided by the light of his life, his daughter, Tina. Michael lived a life marked by selflessness, wisdom, respect, and kindness.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Maria Celestina (Tina) Varela, his parents Marcos Varela and Cruzita Martinez-Varela, his sister Connie Valencia, his brothers Tino Varela, Jackie Varela, and Marcos Varela Jr., and his grandparents Francisco and Luz Varela, and Eliseo and Nicolasita Martinez.

He is survived by his longtime partner Angie Ortiz, his granddaughter Alyssa Roybal, his brothers and sisters Tonie Quintana and her husband Fidel, Bobby Varela and his wife Bertha, Sophie Bowles, and Lydia Mares, and all his loving nieces and nephews.

Although he has been carried home to God, he will never be forgotten, and his love will continue to fill our hearts until we are all reunited with him in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Services for Michael will take place on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos, NM, beginning with a rosary at 10:00 am, then mass at 11:00 am, followed by the burial at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery.
