Pete Lupe Maes ("Lou"), age 58, passed away on July 10, 2026, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He was born on March 6, 1968, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to Maria Arla Maes and Pete Arcenio Maes.

Lupe planned on attending New Mexico Highlands University, where he wanted to focus on Computer Science. He had a special talent for masonry, a craft he learned from his paternal grandfather, Jose Arcenio Maes. Lupe had a deep love for animals, enjoyed taking long walks, and looked forward to picking piñon each season. As a child, he treasured his beloved cat, Snow White, and always hoped she would bring him many kittens.

Lupe is survived by his three children, his grandchildren, his mother, Maria Arla Maes; his stepfather, Karl Sanchez; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Arcenio Maes; his maternal grandmother, Isabelle Madrid Tijerina; his maternal grandfather, Guadalupe Garcia Sr.; his paternal grandfather, Jose Arcenio Maes; and his paternal grandmother, Maria Paz Maes.

A Mass will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Burial of his cremated remains will follow at San Jose Cemetery.

Lupe will be remembered for, his love of nature and animals, his skilled hands, and the memories he leaves with all who knew and loved him.
