Ramon R Montoya, a resident of Las Vegas NM passed to a better life on Thursday, February 5th, 2026, surrounded by prayer, love, family, and friends. He joins his parents, newborn sister, and brothers James and Eduardo who preceded him in death.
He was born on August 31st, 1957, in Canoncito De Las Manuelitas to Rafael Montoya and Elizia Felix. He graduated from Robertson High school in 1979. Ramon was employed by New Mexico Highlands University through Vistas Sin Limites, a program designated for individuals with special needs. He retired from New Mexico Highlands University as a custodian. He took great pleasure in participating in the Special Olympics and took pride in the many medals he earned for various events. He enjoyed spending time with his roommates Andy Gallegos and Gary Branchal, watching old westerns, spending time outdoors, and going to the rancho. He admired the fire department personnel and law enforcement officials. They were his heroes.
Ramon was the third child of 11 children. He is survived by his siblings Mary Ann Cruz, Joseph Montoya, Marcia Grano, Rita Sanchez, Cathy Montoya (Vincent), Elena Montoya (Carlos), and Elizabeth Montoya (Gary), nephews Stephen Cruz and family, Timothy Maes and family, Adam Maes, Adonis Montoya, and EJ Sanchez, nieces Ebony Maes and family, Amber Maes and family, Alicia Cummings and family, Nikkita Montoya and family, Shantelle Montoya and family, Allison Sanchez, and Elizia Montoya, uncle Billy Felix and family, aunts Rita Vargas and family, and Theresa Roybal, and by many cousins and many friends.
Rosary will be recited by Rose Romero on Sunday, February 15th, 2026, at 5:00 PM. A funeral mass will be conducted on Monday, February 16th at 1:30 PM with both services to be held at Immaculate Conception church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at Santo Nino Cemetery in Canon De Las Manuelitas with the following serving as pallbearers Stephen Cruz, Estevan Cruz, Timothy Maes, Adam Maes, Simon Cummings, Adonis Montoya, and EJ Sanchez.
