Ray Alcario Lopez

(August 6, 1943- August 22, 2022)

Ray Alcario Lopez 79, passed away peacefully in his home on August 22, 2022.

He born on August 6, 1943 to Mary Lopez in Watrous, NM. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Lopez, wife Veneranda Medina-Lopez, daughters Nicole Lopez-Gonzales and Patsy Medina- Montoya granddaughter Courtney Lee Martinez, and Aunt Helen Lopez.

Ray was a graduate of Robertson High School, Class of 1963, where he lettered all 4 years in Football, Wrestling, and Track & Field

He was Drafted in 1965 US Army, served a Tour in Vietnam from 1966-1967, and was Honorably Discharged in 1967 as a Specialist Four.

He worked from 1967-1976 in Construction with Guy F. Atkinson at the Cochiti Dam and with Kent Nolan Construction at the Santa Rosa Dam from 1976 to 1982 Under the US Corp of Engineers. From 1982-2010 Ray worked for the NMDOT until his retirement. During his time at the NMDOT he held the positions of Supervisor of the Chip Seal Crew and acting AMS (Area Maintenance Supervisor).

Other interests included: ranching, horse training, hunting, and going to the casino

He is survived by his Granddaughter RayVen Gonzales (Tomas) of Las Vegas, NM, Grandson Richard Ray Gonzales of Las Vegas, NM, Grandson that was raised as a son Richard Montoya (Tracy) of Albuquerque, NM, his son-in- law Richard Gonzales of Las Vegas, NM, His children Dolores Sena of Las Vegas, NM, Sarah Madrid of Las Vegas, NM, Katie Ortega of Las Vegas, NM, Mary Ann Salazar of Las Vegas, NM, Becky Medina of Las Vegas, NM, Carla Miller (Mike) of Sacramento, CA, Chuck Medina of Las Vegas, NM, Kenny Medina (Dolores) of Las Vegas, NM, Maria Maestas (Nick) of Las Vegas, NM, Denise Trujillo of Ledoux, NM, Charles Trujillo of Ledoux, NM, Special Companion Addie Trujillo of Ledoux, NM, brother Trinidad Lopez of Albuquerque, NM, numerous grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Rosary will be recited on Tuesday August 30, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM.

Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church Las Vegas, NM with Father Augustine Henderson as Celebrant. Funeral Mass will be lived streamed either on https://oloslasvegas.org/ or https://www.facebook.com/OLOS.LV/ .

Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors in Santa Fe, NM with the following serving as pallbearers Richard Ray Gonzales, Kenny Medina, Richard Montoya, Brian Ortega, Charles Trujillo, Tomas Gonzales, Richard Gonzales, Richard Medina. Honorary Pallbearers are Trinidad Lopez, all grandsons and all great grandsons.
