Rene Medellin was born January 21, 1939, on the Medellin Family Ranch outside of Hebbronville, Texas to Gil and Enriqueta (Ramirez) Medellin. He was the 13th of thirteen children. He was called to the Lord from his home in Chacon, NM on May 7, 2024, at the age of 85.

Rene nourished people around him with love, faith, music, and laughter. He spent his early years raising a family, attending church, participating in athletics, dancing, and cooking. In his later years he became a businessman in Mora, NM, opening a 50's style diner serving up wonderful dishes to locals and travelers, most especially his ice cream dishes.  Some of his favorite times out were to attend live events and watch his children and grandchildren participate in sports and music. Rene truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with customers at his restaurant in Mora, snacking on popcorn or a cookie while watching a western film, and spending time with his dear wife and friends. Rene left a tremendous impact on his immediate family, and he will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gil Medellin and Enriqueta Ramirez Medellin; five young siblings; adult brothers, Evan, Ruben, Robert, and Rudy Medellin; adult sisters Lucia Scala and Thelma Collins.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Delia Medellin; sister Sara Carpenter of San Marcos, TX; daughters, Ann Medellin and husband Ron of Portland, OR, Sara Greenlee and husband Chad of Bailey, CO; grandchildren, David and Steven Sanchez of Lakewood, CO, and Daniel and Erinn Blessinger of Portland, OR; stepchildren, Leonard Vasquez and wife Beverly of Gilcrest, CO and their 5 children, Rebecca Vasquez of Platteville, CO and her 3 children, Gina Lanier and husband Jeff of Longmont, CO and their 3 children, Junior Vasquez of Platteville, CO and his 2 children. There are also 7 great grandchildren to add to the joy of living a long, wonderful life.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mora Valley Baptist Church, 38 Rio De La Casa, Cleveland, New Mexico, 87715.

Refreshments will be served after the celebration.
