It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Renee Benavidez, age 43. After a long battle with metastatic breast cancer, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on October 23, 2026. A longtime resident of Las Vegas, NM, she was born on November 22, 1982 to Casey Benavidez and Augustina Gomez Benavidez, who preceded her in death.
Renee was a 2001 West Las Vegas graduate and went on to pursue the following degrees: Bachelor’s of Social Work in 2005; Master’s of Rehabilitation in Counseling, with a certificate in School Counseling in 2012; and an Associate’s in Early Childhood Education in 2016, earning each degree through Luna Community College and New Mexico Highlands University.
Renee was a go getter and was always busy doing something. When she became sick, she started a hobby of making dream catchers, selling many here in New Mexico and out of state. She also loved going to auctions to purchase items for resale in her yard sales. If she wasn’t making dream catchers or having yard sales, you would find her following and watching her son playing baseball. She would go to every game when he played for La Plaza Little League. Once he started playing for the Don’s, she missed every season due to treatments or getting sick; it hurt Renee because she couldn’t go to her son’s games, but it didn’t stop her from being his number one fan. Her pride and joy was her only son, and he was her whole world.
Renee is survived by her son Bobby Joe Sanchez, his father Bobby Sanchez, and her brother Chalo Benavidez (Linda). Also survived by her nieces Chrislynn Benavidez and Mariah Gonzales; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, of which there are so many, a collection would have to be started to list each one.
Rosary devotional service will be held on Monday, November 16, 2026 at 6:00 PM, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2026 at 9:00 AM, also at Our Lady of Sorrows; followed by burial of cremains at La Manga Cemetery in La Manga, NM. The following will serve as urn bearers: Bobby Joe Sanchez, Chalo Benavidez, and Bobby Sanchez.
Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary 600 Reynolds Ave Las Vegas, NM 87701 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
