Obituary

Rex "Buzzard" Haver, born on October 7, 1947 in Salinas, California, passed away on May 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by resilience, grit, and unwavering determination. A proud Vietnam veteran and Marine through and through, Buzzard lived his life refusing to give up, despite the immense pain and disability he carried since the war. He often said, "Pain lets you know you are alive," and he took pride in his ability to keep going, no matter the struggle.

Buzzard could be a handful and often rubbed people the wrong way—but those who knew him best understood that his tough exterior concealed a deeply caring heart. He had a way of showing his love without ever saying it, but his actions spoke volumes. His stubbornness was both his greatest challenge and his fiercest strength.

In the early 1970s, Buzzard found his special place in the mountains of Mora, New Mexico, where he settled down and called home. An avid Harley enthusiast, he loved nothing more than hitting the open road, feeling the wind on his face, and embracing the freedom that only his motorcycle could bring.

Buzzard shared 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Samantha Haver. Their partnership was marked by resilience and a fierce commitment to one another through every challenge life presented.

He is survived by his wife, Samantha Haver; his son, Stoney Haver; his daughters, Tabitha Haver and Brandy Brogan (and son-in-law Mike Brogan); his grandsons, Shea and Shawn Brogan; his sister, Dianne Rogers; and his niece, Dainte Marie Rogers.

Buzzard faced life head-on, never backing down, and never losing his fighting spirit. Those who loved him will remember his stubborn resolve, his rugged honesty, and his unbreakable will to survive. He may have been tough to love at times, but he loved fiercely in his own way.

Semper Fi, Buzzard. Ride on.
