Robert Douglas
Phillips
January 16, 1956 – November 18, 2024
He was just "Bob". A fun guy with a bold laugh and a strong, warm handshake. Bob left this world at home, on Monday November 18th. He is survived by his wife, Anne, his sister, Susan, his brother, Larry, his stepson, Sam, and his granddaughter, Charlotte.
Born to Sara and Joseph Phillips in Rochester New York, Bob shared a busy family life with his two siblings. Growing vegetables, pumpkins and watermelons as a boy, his father would say, "now once you've finished all your chores and homework, and if you have any energy left, you can ride your horse". And that was the beginning of his addiction, horses. He never quit!
In 1973, Bob left home, worked multiple jobs, and finished high school. He joined the Air force at age 18 and served his country with recognition and honors. After having an accident while serving, Bob went on to pursue a career in architectural home design. He would say; "I've been self employed all my life, you work hard so you can play hard." And so he did.
Bob was a hard driven business manager, a problem solver in everything he did. He consulted and managed a number of companies, such as Rain Soft, which he won a number of awards, and Management Recruiters. Bob loved the outdoors; hunting in some of the most harshest environments and fishing the most challenging waters. Raising performance horses however, was a love he held dear to his heart. Unfortunately, as his physical health began to take a toll on this career, raising and training the babies came to an end. In 2008, Bob tied for 3rd in the World, the AQHA Amateur Cutting, with his beloved mare, Cheries Playgun. That night a photo was taken of Bob and his very best friend, Merle Guinn, who passed away in 2022. A cherished photo.
In 1982 his son, Chase was born, and in 2013 Bob was introduced to his beautiful grandchild, Charlotte.
We will honor Bob in the Rogers Mortuary Chapel on Friday, January 10, 2024, at 11:00am in Las Vegas, NM followed by his internment at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 2:00 pm (prompt arrival required).
