Obituary

It is with great sorrow and with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Goddaughter, and Friend. Roberta Judith Abreu aka-Berta or Gamma as she was affectionately known by all. After her battle with cancer, Roberta passed away peacefully on Saturday August 30, 2025, in Denver, CO.
Roberta was born in Las Vegas, NM to Simon and Connie Sanchez on August 3, 1958. She was raised in Las Vegas, NM where she attended school as a Robertson Cardinal. As a young girl, she loved playing with her barbies, playing baseball with her Uncle Tom, haciendo males with Ray and Rosanna, listening to Elvis, but her favorite has always been hanging out with her family. As she got older, she also made numerous memories with her best friends led by Geri Cassidy. Roberta graduated from Robertson High School in 1976 where she was the sports editor for the yearbook. She went on to study at Luna Community College where she obtained her associate degree. All through her years, she worked at her parents' boarding home, 'Casa De Consuelo' where she eventually branched out and created her own boarding home. With her pure and genuine heart, she has helped countless women and families with mental challenges throughout Las Vegas and the entire state. Roberta loved working the family business and truly loved the women whom she took care of like a mother or sister figure.
Roberta is preceded in death by her father, Simon Sanchez Jr, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents Benjamin E. and Cleotilde (Tilly) Gonzales, grandchildren A-Angel and Ara, and several Uncles, Aunts, and cousins. She is survived by her lifelong partner Arthur Abreu Sr., her children Art Abreu Jr. (Chloe), Alyssa Abreu (Tony), her grandchildren Zoey Abreu-Udley, Julius Udley, Arthur Abreu III (Tre), Andre Robert Abreu and Raylynn Sanchez, her loving mother, Connie Sanchez, brother Ray Sanchez (Debbie), sister Rosanna Montoya (David), Uncles, Tom Gonzales, and Frank Gonzales, Nephews, Ray Sanchez Jr.(Jennifer), Steven Sanchez, Eddie Abreu Jr.(godson), Patrick Cox, and Ramon Abreu, Nieces, Naomi Ortiz, Tamera Ortiz, and Amanda Cox, Godson Jason Cassidy. She is also survived by her god-mother Geneva Lovato, and numerous beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Roberta loved love, everything she did throughout her life was done with pure love and joy with her infectious smile. From a little girl till her last days she cared for everyone in her life and brought so much happiness. Roberta loved her adventures with her family whether it was weekends in El Povenir, shopping trips to Santa Fe, vacations to Juarez and Disneyland, countless concerts, pro football, baseball games, and movie nights at home. Not only does the family have such blessed memories with Roberta, so does the community of Las Vegas. As Art started his coaching career with the loving push from Roberta to choose to coach at Robertson, there has been 30 years' worth of countless students and athletes Roberta would assist Art in coaching, mentoring, cheering on with her cowbell, and absolutely caring for. Roberta was a planner, from her decorations, spaghetti dinners, pancake breakfasts, fundraising, getting the Cardinals a chartered bus, she was the ultimate booster club wrapped into one person. She knew how to coordinate every event for Art's football teams, family holidays, birthdays, and vacations. Everything was always so magical and memorable. As Art and Aly grew up, Roberta would read the book "Love you Forever" which she also gifted the grandchildren with words that ring true to her core as a mother/grandmother. The memories she blessed our family with will never be forgotten, always celebrated, and forever cherished. Her love, pure kind heart, and caress will live on through our family. Mom, we wanted to thank you for meeting that big eared boy at our Lady of Sorrows for your 1st Holy Communion, years later again becoming friends with that big eared man when he went to college at Highlands, and a few years later marrying him at Our Lady of Sorrows to embark on a wild journey of endless love and creating the most beautiful family we will forever cherish and continue to grow for you, love you forever.
