It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Roger Lee Benavidez Jr. on March 2nd, 2025 in Wichita Kansas. Roger was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico on July 18th, 1999. He was a 2018 graduate of West Las Vegas High School. After high school, he worked as a corrections officer at the San Miguel County Detention Center and as a volunteer firefighter for the Gallinas Fire Department. Then he moved to Oklahoma and lived there for the last four years.

Roger was always so friendly to everyone he met. He was a kind-hearted person and always wanted to help everyone. Roger was dearly loved by many, he brought happiness and light to every room he walked in. He had so many friends and family members he loved dearly. Some of his many hobbies he enjoyed doing were fishing, working on his cars and motorcycles, and taking pictures of different cars. His pride and joy were his two cats, Chonkers and Patches, who meant everything to him.

Roger will be missed by everyone he knew. He will never be forgotten by his family, friends, and co-workers. Roger was the best big brother to his sister and younger brothers. Love you my son you will be in our hearts forever.

Preceded in death by his great-grandmother Isabel Garcia.

He is survived by his mother Mikah Benavidez, father and stepmother Roger Benavidez Sr and Amanda Martinez-Benavidez, his sister Gabrielle Benavidez and fiancé Marcos Dominguez, brothers Isaac, Andres and Jacob all of Las Vegas, NM. Grandparents: Patsy Lucero, Manuel Benavidez, Darlene and Leon Herrera of Las Vegas, NM. Christine Montoya of Albuquerque, NM. Aunts and Uncles: Brian and Suzanne Lucero, Michelle Lucero and partner Ramon Herrera, Ronald Benavidez, Janice Benavidez, and partner Joe Romero all of Las Vegas, NM. Rick and Beth Martinez of Las Cruces, NM, Marcos and Elisa Martinez of Chandler, AZ. Christopher Armijo and Alejandro Armijo of Springer, NM. He is also survived by many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, March 14th at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM, beginning with a rosary at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass. Interment of cremains will be at a later date.

Serving as pallbearers are Isaac Benavidez, Andres Benavidez, Orlando Lopez, Jacob Lopez, Raymond Sanchez, Marcos Dominguez, Steven Garcia, and Leon Lujan. Honorary pallbearers are Jacob Benavidez and all his friends.
