Roger G. Valdez passed away on September 16, 2023, at the age of 30 after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Roger is survived by his father Gilbert Valdez (fiancé Geraldine Saavedra); mother Lisa Briggs-Valdez; girlfriend Maygan Saiz; step-daughters Rosalyita Saiz and Anastasia Herrera; sisters Valerie Esquibel (Freddie), Desiree Bachicha (Lucas), Kimberly Blea (Rico), Isabella Briggs, Felicia Baca, Susanna Castellano (Dario), Devin Jaramillo, and Kimberly Lucero; brothers Benito and Santiago Briggs; nephews and nieces Antonio, Alexis, Arellana, Andres, Alma, Rico Jr., Amor, Arianna, Aaliyah, Mya, Kensley, Antonio, Emiliano, Jordan and special nephew Josiah; grandfathers Jose A.E. Valdez and Joe Gallegos; special cousins Levi and Shannon Salazar; and numerous other relatives.
Roger is preceded in death by Grandmother Vedilia Valdez, grandfather Marlin Briggs, Grandmother Delia Gallegos, biological mother Mary Loretta Baca, and Grandmother Natividad Baca.
Roger enjoyed the outdoors, cutting wood, fishing, and playing video games. He loved to visit the family ranch in Ojo Feliz. Roger loved and cared about all his family and friends. This was evident by his regular and routine calls and messages just to check in to see how everyone else was doing despite battling cancer for over 9 years. Roger was a fighter and fought hard till the end.
Visitation will take place on Thursday September 21, 2023, from 3:00-5:00 pm and Friday September 22, 2023, from 9:30-11:00 am at Rogers Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Friday September 22, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Ojo Feliz Church of Christ. Burial will follow the services at the Ojo Feliz Church of Christ Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Preacher Jessie Ortiz. Pallbearers are Antonio Roybal, Antonio Bachicha, Rico Blea, Lucas Bachicha, Ermie Salazar, and Freddie Esquibel. A meal will follow the burial at the Ojo Feliz Church of Christ.
