Roy L. Gallegos Sr., age 76, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
He was born on February 6, 1949 to Ramon and Josie Gallegos of Rociada, NM. Roy's upbringing in Rociada was one of his favorite conversations about living on the ranch. He loved being brought up in the small ranching community.
Roy enjoyed listening to music, fishing, hunting, and camping. Most importantly, he loved spending time with family and friends. Roy was a skilled carpenter and worked in construction, finishing up his career at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, NM.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve and Ramon Jr. Gallegos; sisters, Elfie Medina and Helen Pino.
Roy is survived by his wife, Carol Gallegos; son, Roy Gallegos Jr., (Rita); daughter, Sharlene Sanchez (Jerry Dean Sanchez); grandchildren, Christian, Shaylene, Jeremy and Jaselynn Sanchez; siblings, Juan Gallegos (Debbie), Carmen Silva (Joe); sister-in-law, Martha Arguello and numerous nephews and nieces.
Rosary will be recited on Feb. 11th, 2026 @ 9am, funeral mass will follow with both services to be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at Santo Niño cemetery in Rociada, NM with the following serving as pallbearers, Bobby Torres, Charlie Torres, Toby Medina, Markose Pacheco, Robert Torres and David Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers, Christian Sanchez and Shaylene Sanchez.
