Ruben Garcia Jr., 85, was born in Rociada, N.M. on February 15, 1937 to Ruben E. Garcia and Brenilda Gallegos. He grew up on the family ranch where he worked along side his family, running their sawmill, grocery store and gas station.
In 1957 he married his wife Corrine and moved to
Denver, Colorado, where he worked for ABEX Steel Mill for several years.
In 1976 he moved his family back to Las Vegas and began working at Las Vegas Medical Center and retired after 23 years of service.
Ruben was a partner with his father and son running the very popular Bottle Shop, where he is known as Ruby-Doo for many years.
In 1999 he and Corrine moved to his family ranch in Rociada and settled into their golden years, where they enjoyed many annual gatherings with family and friends.
Ruben was well known for his wonderful personality.
He loved to talk and meet new people.
He enjoyed going to the casino, playing dice, poker and traveling in his RV with his family.
He enjoyed visiting family in Brighton, Colorado where he had many primos he grew up with.
Many people knew Ruby-Doo and will remember him as a fun loving man. He lived a wonderful life with many adventures from ranching, cutting hay, raising cattle, horses, peacocks, llamas, goats, chickens, ducks and his many dogs all named Fido.
The devastating fires and flooding will change the surrounding but will never change the memories at "The Ranch" and many to follow.
God blessed his life, he has joined his wife once again and will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ruben E. Garcia, Brenilda Gallegos, wife Corrine Garcia and his sister Gloria Strahl.
He is survived by his sons Michael Garcia (Connie) of Santa Fe, NM, Robert Garcia of Albuquerque, NM, His daughter Brenda Garcia of Alamogordo, NM, son Ron Garcia (Vickie) from Chandler, AZ, Grandchildren Michael Jay (Sarah), Steven (Alie), Valerie (Johnny), Felicia, Jenny (Steve). Ryan, Hailey, Great-Grandchildren Madelyn, Joshua, Noah, Alex, Jason, Alyna, Monique and Gabriel, Sisters Viola Martinez (Levi) of White Rock, NM, Bernice Ortega (Ben) of Rociada, NM, brother Leo Garcia (Alice) of Las Vegas, NM, sister-in law Polly Romero (Sonny), of Las Vegas, NM, Frances Alvarado (Frank), Viola King (Roy), Darlene Tidwell (Aaron) all of Alamogordo, NM
Rosary will be recited on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, NM.
Funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Santo Nino Cemetery in Lower Rociada, NM with the following serving as Pallbearers Michael Jay Garcia, Steven Garcia, Ryan Garcia, Gabriel Fierro, Jason Sanchez, and Tim Strahl. Honorary Pallbearers are all his remaining Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren.
