Santiago Jose Lopez passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 19, 2023 in a tragic accident. He was 20 years old. Santiago was born on August 10, 2003 in Las Vegas, NM to Ramona Sanchez. Santiago grew up in Las Vegas and attended West Las Vegas Schools. Santiago graduated in 2022. Santiago was a very special person. He was always so positive and was a blessing to everyone who knew him. Santiago was very outgoing and personable. He had many friends and was always joking around and laughing. When Santiago was born, we knew he would change the world. And he did just that. He was a blessing to all who had the pleasure of meeting him. Santiago was also a very hard worker. He worked with his Grampo Ramon who taught him how to be a man. He was never lazy. He always had to be doing something. He took great pride in his work. Santiago had a love for animals as well and leaves behind his baby RayRay and his beloved horse.
Santiago is preceded in death by his Grandma, Theresa Sanchez; Cousin, Antonio Lopez; Grampo, Arecenio Sanchez; Grandma, Porfiria Salas, and Uncle, Jeff Scott.
Santiago is survived by his Mother, Ramona Sanchez and fiancé Sam Martinez; Grampo, Raymond Sanchez; Brothers Benito Lujan and Robert Garza; Aunt, Rosemary Sanchez and Uncle Sam Jaramillo; His cousins, Jordan Jaramillo, Isaiah Jaramillo, and Kobe Jaramillo; Godmother Lydia Sanchez and Grandma, Maria Sanchez. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
Santiago was loved by so many people. He had a heart of gold and was always so giving. Because of him, the world is a better place. Many friends and family would say the same thing. We will never let his memory die. We will all strive to be as much of an amazing human being as Santi was.
Rosary and Funeral mass will be conducted on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Burial will take place immediately after, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Reception will follow at the Palms Ballroom 1816 Plaza St. Las Vegas, NM.
