Sofia M. Valdez age 85 a longtime resident of Los Hueros, New Mexico passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022, in Santa Fe surrounded by family.

She was born on December 26, 1936, to Vianes and Emilia Martinez of Hernandez, NM and was raised by her maternal-grandparents Dario and Elena Ortega of Hernandez, New Mexico. She attended the Northern New Mexico Normal School in El Rito New Mexico where she met her beloved Husband of 57 years Rowland "Rudy" Valdez, they raised 8 children. She was a Homemaker and a school bus contractor for the Mora Independent Schools.

She is preceded in death by her; maternal grandparents: Dario and Elena Ortega, Parents: Emilia and Vianes Martinez, husband: Rowland "Rudy" Valdez, sons: George "Chopo" Valdez and Randolph "Randy" Valdez, brothers: Dario Martinez and Vianes Martinez Jr.

She is survived by her: daughter: Doris Valdez-Cook (Sam) of Las Vegas, NM; son: Martin Valdez (Debbie) of Gallup, NM; daughter: Kate Valdez-Marquez (David) of Sapello, NM; daughter Rose Salas (Clarence) of Gallup, NM; daughter Annette Sanchez (Corky) of Las Vegas, NM; son: Ivan Valdez of Los Hueros, NM; nephew raised as a son: Jerome Roybal of Hernendez, NM; daughter-in-law: Pauline Valdez of Las Vegas, NM;  grandchildren: Sharon Valdez, Andrea Valdez, Randy Paul Valdez, Daniel Jaramillo, Santiago Jaramillo, George Valdez, Charlie Valdez, Henrietta Baca, Martin Valdez Jr., Denise Sprigs, Daniela Valdez, Samuel Marquez, Steven Salas, Patricia Trujillo, Michelle Salas, and Charlotte Sanchez, , twenty-eight great-grandchildren, sisters: Helen Armijo of  Arroyo Seco, NM; Connie Petersen of Hernandez, NM; Patsy Silva of Espanola, NM; Liz Pepin and Theresa Compton both of Hernandez, NM; brothers; Arthur Martinez and Albert Martinez both of Hernandez, NM; sister-in-law: Tere Martinez of Hernandez, NM; numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Rosary services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 9:00am   with both services to be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, NM with Father George V. Salazar as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Los Hueros Cemetery in Los Hueros, NM with the following as Pallbearers, Brad Sena, Samuel Marquez, Daniel Jaramillo, Charlotte Sanchez, George Valdez and Steven Salas. Honorary bearers will be all her remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Godchildren.
