Sophia O. Ulibarri, 95 a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Thursday October 19, 2023.
Sophia was born February 17, 1928, in Bernal, NM to Atanasia Dimas and Cleofes Ortiz. She was raised by her grandmother Theodorita Ortiz. Sophia was united in marriage to Anselmo Ulibarri on May 21, 1945. Together, they raised seven children, Charlie, Richard, Victor, Armando, Lillian, Josie, and Marian. She loved her children beyond words. Sophia was also a life-long member of the Mountain View Church of Christ in Las Vegas, NM. Anselmo and Sophia devoted themselves to teaching their children and grandchildren about GOD. There were many times you would find her reading her bible on her kitchen table and singing hymns. Sophia was extremely wise in many facets of her everyday life. She had a heart of gold and will truly be missed.
Sophia enjoyed living at the Ulibarri Ranch where she had many animals to dote on and cherish. In her younger years, Sophia enjoyed riding horses and helping with the cattle. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her great-great grandchildren. She would always say that children were a gift from GOD.
Sophia is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Anselmo Ulibarri; father and grandmother, Cleofes and Theodorita Ortiz, mother, Atanasia Dimas; sons, Leopoldito and Charlie Ulibarri; grandsons, Victor (Kiko) Ulibarri Jr., James Oldham; daughters-in-law, Bertha Ulibarri and Andy Lou Ulibarri; son-in-law, Richard Oldham; sisters, Faustina (Tina) Madrid, Antonia (Toni) Lovette; brother Leroy Ortiz;
Sophia is survived by her sons, Richard, Victor, and Armando (Yolanda) Ulibarri all of Las Vegas, NM; daughters, Lillian (Leroy) Baca of Rio Rancho, NM, Josie (David) Baca of Thornton, CO, Marian Oldham Ulibarri of Las Vegas, NM; sisters, Predicanda Thompsom of Altoona, WI, Esmeralda Ortiz and Lorraine Ortiz both of Bernal, NM, Jane Salas (Benny) of Santa Fe, NM; Brothers, Cipriano Ortiz, Roberto Ortiz (Stella), Devoted Brother, Jerry Ortiz (Marilyn) of Bernal, NM, Mike Ortiz (Anna) of Milan, NM.
Sophia is also survived by seven grandchildren, Olivia Ortiz and husband Angelo, Jason Ulibarri and wife Oletta, Santana Ulibarri and Leandrea Bitsilly, Vivian Roanhorse and husband Eric, granddaughter-in-law Olivia Ulibarri, Polo Ulibarri and wife Perla, LeRoy Baca and wife Melody, Diane Cabanillas and husband Tony; twelve great grandchildren, Jonah Ortiz and wife Taylor, Noah Ortiz and girlfriend Tristyn Bustos, Elijah Ortiz, Jackson Ulibarri, Briley Ulibarri, Esperanza Sena, Isabella Sena, Victor Ulibarri III and wife Diandra, Andres Ulibarri, Matika Self and husband Ricky, Chelsea Baca and Zach Ferguson, Tony Cabanillas Jr. and wife Bria; seven great-great grandchildren, Xaiden Gomez, Xahara Self, Mackenzie Ferguson, Bellah Ferguson, Sophia Jade Ulibarri, Stormi Ulibarri, Giavanna (Gia) Cabanillas.
A very special thank you to Santana Ulibarri, Leandrea Bitsilly, Josie, and David Baca for taking care of Sophia during her illness. On behalf of Sophia's family, thank you to everyone for the prayers, condolences, and contributions.
Public viewing will be from 3:00PM to 5:00PM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Rogers Mortuary.
Memorial Service on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00AM at the Mountain View Church of Christ at 53A Mountain View Dr. in Las Vegas, NM. Presiding over the services will be Jason Ulibarri.
Interment will take place immediately after the memorial service at the Ulibarri Family Cemetery on NM Highway 84 right before mile marker 93.
Reception will be served at the Mountain View Church of Christ immediately following interment.
Pallbearers will be Santana Ulibarri, Leandrea Bitsilly, LeRoy Baca, Jason Ulibarri, Polo Ulibarri, Jonah Ortiz, Victor Ulibarri III, and Tony Cabanillas Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be all her remaining grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
